2008-2009 Workshops

The purpose of the Adult Studio program is to offer educational opportunities for actors at Ocala Civic Theatre by encouraging involvement from newcomers and providing the present talent pool with opportunities to strengthen their performance skills. All workshops are for adults and students ages 16 and up. Please join us for these informative and exciting workshops.

Some workshops are free of charge, others require a nominal fee. Any fees are used to offset costs for the teaching artists. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to workshop time to allow for registration. If you have questions about the workshops, or would like to pre-register, contact Allen McCoy, Director of Education, at (352) 236-2851 or educationdir@ocalacivictheatre.com.

THE DIRECTOR’S AUDITION: THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TABLE
Sunday, April 20, 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

This hands-on workshop gives participants a view of what its like for the director to sit through auditions. Employing a role-playing technique, participants take on the roles of actors, directors and monitors, while experiencing the process of a theatre audition. All participants play more than one role, thus giving them a different perspective on this trying, yet necessary, function of the theatre. Instructor: Allen McCoy. Free admission.

IMPROVISATION TECHNIQUES FOR THE ACTOR
Sunday, May 18, 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

How can the actor use improvisation as a tool for developing his or her character? This two-hour workshop gets participants up on their feet, and identifies exercises and techniques that help actors develop honest and believable characters. This workshop is a must for those serious about their acting. Instructor: Allen McCoy. Free admission.
